MAR09  Belgian American Museum Grand Opening and Dedication

On Friday, March 9, 2018, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the Grand Opening of The Genealogical Society of Flemish Americans' new Belgian American Museum. Among the guests were Suzanne Pixley, Mayor of Eastpointe; Jan Haggerty Mayor Pro Tem for Roseville; Pam Lavers, Macomb County Deputy County Executive; John Chirkun, State Representative; Heather Bain, Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce; and L Moms, Meagan Ruth, and Teresa West from First State Bank.

At the ribbon cutting, the board members dedicated the museum to Cheryl A Heckla for all her hard work putting the new Belgian American Museum together.

Research Center & Museum

Our Mission - To share and promote with pride the preservation of our heritage and to help educate persons interested and learning about genealogy by providing resources and assistance.

GSFA is proud to be the largest library of Flemish genealogy records outside of Belgium. Please come by and take a look around or ask questions. We also have a museum of interesting traditional cultural pieces, as well as books, shirts, and many other items for sale.

Materials In Our 
Reference Library

Family Histories - some forty plus volumes ranging from professionally published books to compilations in various types of bindings by members of their charts, pictures, and narrations. Some are indexed.

Histories of Belgian Towns - mostly written in Flemish, primarily West Flanders towns but we are constantly adding more East Flanders information in all areas.


VVF- Vlaamse Stam - We have many years of this publication by a large genealogical society based in Antwerp.

Exchange Publications - We exchange publications with about a dozen or more societies here in the US but also three in Canada and three in Belgium.

Over 13,000 funeral memorial cards for US , Canada, and Belgium.

Over 6000 copies of Bereavement letters from Belgium mostly from W. Flanders area. Excellent source of family information.

Flemish American 
Heritage Magazine

Published in March, July, and November by GFSA. Each member receives a subscription to the magazine, including a yearly index, along with a newsletter column.  

FAH contains a mixture of articles, some of the genealogical interest, some cultural. The newsletter is a more informal publication with miscellaneous announcements, news of members etc. It's published three times yearly in March, July, and November. Some of the older articles will be posted on the old website to give you a sampling.
