After a long break due to the Covid crisis, we are happy to announce that we will re-start our special programs in the coming months. Programs in the past have focused upon writing classes for genealogy-related topics, historical presentations, speakers and much more. We have an annual Christmas Bake Sale and Mini Christmas Mart every year where Lukken, raisin bread, other baked goods and crafts are available! Tours of the Leon Buyse Library and our museum are available, contact Fran at the number below

MAY 9, 2020 - In honor of Margaret Roets' 99TH birthday, there is a drive by and honk party  in front of her home in St. Clair Shores today for Margaret on Saturday, May 9, 2020 from 3:30 to 4:00 . There will be a book to sign somewhere on the block  and at the moment, we don't know if its driving north to south or south to north! E-mail Cheryl at flemishlibrary@gmail.com for the address.

November 8, 2019, 1 pm - 3:30(?):  Back for it's second year at a special date and time! Celebrate St. Catherine's Day For Tea and Cake With Us. St. Catherine was the patron of lace makers. Please come and share a cup of tea and a special Cattern cake honoring her. We will have lacemakers and spinners giving demonstrations. We also have a lovely lace exhibit in our museum. September 28, 2019, 10:30 am: Writing Class - Writing class: The Story of Your Prized Possession. We would like you to write a story telling about your most prized possession. Saturday, April 13, 2019, 11 am: Etienne Elskens Discusses His Immigration From Belgium in 1952 - Join us for what appears to be an insightful discussion.

February 23, 2019, 11am-2pm - How To Write Your Family Stories. Bill Krul will be at the GSFA Library to provide insight and instruction into the creation of your family stories. Please join us. This is also a Saturday that the research library and museum are open.

November 9, 2018 - Celebrate St. Catherine's Day For Tea and Cake With Us! Celebrate St. Catherine's Day With Us at the GSFA. St. Catherine was the patron of lace makers. Please come and share a cup of tea and a special Cattern cake honoring her. We have a lovely lace exhibit in our museum. This is a free event. 

October 28, 2018 - The Gazette Van Detroit 105th Year Celebration & Farewell Dinner:  The Gazette Van Detroit will cease publishing at the end of this year. COME JOIN IN CELEBRATING our 105th year and bid a fond farewell to the paper. There will be a family style dinner and an open bar. Advance tickets are $25 per person and tickets will not be available at the door. Please RSVP (purchase tickets) by October 11, 2018. We hope you can join us! Visit this event's page on Facebook.

MARCH 9, 2018 -  Belgian American Museum Grand Opening and Dedication

On Friday, March 9, 2018, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the Grand Opening of The Genealogical Society of Flemish Americans' new Belgian American Museum. Among the guests were Suzanne Pixley, Mayor of Eastpointe; Jan Haggerty Mayor Pro Tem for Roseville; Pam Lavers, Macomb County Deputy County Executive; John Chirkun, State Representative; Heather Bain, Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce; and L Moms, Meagan Ruth, and Teresa West from First State Bank.

At the ribbon cutting, the board members dedicated the museum to Cheryl A Heckla for all her hard work putting the new Belgian American Museum together.
